Can I wash photo wallpaper and how to do it right
Wall murals are a great decorative purchase for a home, but can they be washed? The difficulty of maintenance depends on the material of the wall covering. Paper wallpapers are unlikely to tolerate washing, but self-adhesive and vinyl will perceive cleaning with water positively.
Can I wash the photo wallpaper: types
Sooner or later, care will be needed for any mural, but not every variety can be soaked. So, the simplest paper wallpapers with pictures are best wiped off with dust with a dry cloth, in extreme cases resorting to a damp (not wet!) Napkin, and preferably to a soft eraser.
If everything is clear with thin single-layer wallpaper, then double (duplex) is allowed to gently wash with soap foam - except for relief. It is better not to wet these so as not to lose their shape.
Tolerant to moisture (but not to the abundance of water) vinyl wallcoverings. It is allowed to gently wipe with a damp cloth and textile types of decor. And the calmest wallpaper for washing is self-adhesive. They are covered with a special film that protects them from moisture, and also allows you to quickly remove complex dirt like felt-tip pens.
puritex.decorexpro.com/en/ magazine advises you to wash wallpaper with a photo with a slightly damp sponge, and not give them a full shower. From this, they can soften and move away from the walls.
How to wash: smart approach
We tell you how to wash different types of photo wallpaper:
- For starters, it is better to clean textile wallpapers with a soft brush, or walk along the wall with a vacuum cleaner with a special nozzle. To wash local stains, moisten a piece of microfiber or flannel in cool water and gently wipe the trail. Do not abuse so that there are no stains. Bonus from textiles - individual “surprises” can be removed with a stain remover.
- You should also start cleaning the vinyl wallpaper with a vacuum cleaner, and entrust the visible impurities with a damp sponge dipped in a simple soap solution (any bar without perfumes and dyes will work).
- Wash self-adhesive murals with water and soapy foam.
Tip
Before buying photo wallpaper, think in advance what impact they face? If there are small children with artistic talents in the house, then it is worth thinking about self-adhesive wallpapers with increased protection. Textile and especially plain paper will not last long.
Take care of any kind of wallpaper so that they do not lose their decorativeness ahead of time. Always start with dry cleaning; check manufacturer's recommendations for care.
